As construction continues on The Beverly Theater in downtown Las Vegas, additional details are emerging including the announcement that The Beverly Theater is partnering with neighboring independent bookstore The Writer’s Block to create literary programming at the locally forward and culturally illuminating venue.
“While anchored by independent film, our theater was purposefully designed to support our thoughtful programming mission of including live shows and lit happenings,” said Founding Creative Director and CXO Kip Kelly. “The Writer’s Block is a beacon of independent culture in Las Vegas. Working in tandem and in partnership with co-owners and thought leaders Scott Seeley and Drew Cohen next door is the ideal collaboration. Collectively, we will create the ultimate place for honest storytelling scenes and engaging literary experiences.”
Complementing the programming in the pillars of Film and Live, The Beverly Theater’s Lit programming will present a variety of experiences including book readings and clubs, poetry readings, live script readings, local and traveling author workshops, Q&As and book signings, creative author and musician collaborations, engaging literary conversation, and more.
In addition to the flexible theater itself, The Beverly Theater includes a stunning L-shaped outdoor terrace complete with a beer and wine bar, aptly named Segue. A nod to moving without interruption from one scene to another, Segue will serve as home to Lit events as well as live jazz music.
“The Beverly Theater has spaces specifically designed to maximize and explore artistic and creative expression including Segue,” said Seeley. “We will be moving all the events that we had been doing at the Codex at The Writer’s Block to the new venue. We are excited to be able to expand the scope of literary events available in Las Vegas and offer storytelling enthusiasts and bibliophiles even more compelling and insightful programming.”
On track to open in early 2023, the two-story, 14,306 square-foot film house and performance theater is purposefully designed and dialed in to allow for unique content offerings and consistent programming. It is expected that The Beverly Theater will introduce weekly ongoing Lit events.
“As is true in many major cities, there is a literary audience and appetite for culturally-enriching opportunities right here in Las Vegas,” said Seeley. “We are thrilled to help expose the Las Vegas arts, culture, and literary scene to the world.”
In addition to the versatile theater which has 150 retractable seats and Segue, The Beverly Theater will have a courtyard, on-site box office, retail/concession space, fully loaded green room, catering kitchen, and educational workspaces.
Imagined by The Rogers Foundation and the brainchild of Beverly Rogers, the not-for-profit venue is perfectly situated in downtown Las Vegas on 6th St. and Bonneville next to the popular independent bookstore, The Writer’s Block at The Lucy. The Beverly Theater will further catalyze creativity and enhance the already burgeoning cultural scene in Las Vegas.
