The Rogers Foundation Awards Life-Changing College Scholarships

April 23, 2024

With an ongoing mission to transform lives through arts and education in Southern Nevada, The Rogers Foundation recently presented 24 Clark County School District high school seniors with life-changing college scholarships. Among the recipients was a group of seniors who were promised scholarships by Beverly Rogers back in 2015, when they were in third grade at Reynaldo Martinez Elementary School. Hailing from high schools across the Las Vegas Valley, the scholarships were revealed at a special banquet and celebration for the students and their families held at The Beverly Theater in downtown Las Vegas.

Following a portrait session and lunch banquet, The Rogers Foundation began the ceremony with a presentation of scholarships to the group of students previously in Ms. Vuich’s third-grade class at Reynaldo Martinez Elementary School in 2015.

“We have an extraordinary group receiving scholarships today,” explained Michelle Sanders, Chief Operating Officer of The Rogers Foundation. “Ms. Vuich’s third-grade class was the first scholarship ever announced by The Rogers Foundation. When we first started the Foundation, Beverly Rogers came to that class in January 2015 and announced that each student in the class could go to college and today we congratulate these students and make good on that promise.”

The students in attendance were then presented with full-ride tuition plus books scholarships to any in-state institution of higher learning including trade schools. The awards continued with the presentation of two $20,000 scholarships to students planning to study in fields associated with fine arts and design. Asha Rohani of Las Vegas Academy of the Arts and Samantha Garcia of Coronado High School were each presented with scholarships made possible by a generous donation from the estate of Susan Turney.

The awards continued with the presentation of the Rogers Achievers Scholarships. Ranging from $20,000 - $100,000 and valid toward educational costs at any college or university in the United States, six students each received $20,000, and five students were awarded $40,000 before Jana Alnajjar of the College of Southern Nevada High School West was revealed as the $100,000 recipient.

"Scholarship season is truly a highlight for us," shared Michelle Sanders, Chief Operating Officer of The Rogers Foundation. "These students shine brightly on paper, and their presence is even more remarkable in person. They embody the essence of future leaders who will undoubtedly leave a positive mark on the world. We're eagerly anticipating their journey ahead. It's an absolute joy to support these hardworking individuals throughout their academic endeavors thus far. We have full confidence in their potential to achieve incredible things."

Over the past several months, hundreds of Southern Nevada students applied for The Rogers Foundation scholarships. After reading through every application, the selection committee narrowed the pool down and conducted dozens of interviews with the students to determine the top finalists.

“These remarkable young individuals have truly impressed us. Despite any obstacles they've encountered, they've not only persevered but excelled," stated Rory Reid, Chief Executive Officer of The Rogers Foundation. "It's evident that these students will make a significant impact in shaping a better world. We take pride in their accomplishments and are delighted to play a part in supporting their pursuit of higher education."
